The VNA plays an active role in community health awareness. VNA strives to make Kansas City a healthier community by providing free health screenings, lectures to community groups, holding the annual Boo to the Flu event and more.
Vial of Life- The Vial of Life is a national program that promotes the importance of keeping health records up-to-date and in an easily accessible location for emergency personnel.
The vial contains personal and emergency contact information, medical history, a current medication list, a DNR (do not resuscitate) form, and a copy of a living will. The vial is air-tight and stored inside a refrigerator or freezer door. A decal sticker or magnet is placed on the front door, so emergency responders know you participate in the Vial of Life program.

Health Promotion- Health promotion and education is a vital part to the mission of Visiting Nurse Association. Our health promotion nurse travels to several locations in the Kansas City area providing free health screenings to educate on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Fall Risk Assesment- The Visiting Nurse Association newest community program, Prevention Power, was formed in recognition of statistics indicating falls as a leading cause of injury among older adults. The program teaches seniors the importance of understanding balance and transferring. VNA physical therapists provide balance screenings to several assisted living and retirement communities in the Kansas City area to educate participants on the importance of every day muscle strengthening exercises, using their assistive walking devices, and the importance of discussing any concerns of their physical condition with their physician.
Each participant receives information about fall prevention, home safety checklists and an emergency flashlight or night light.
